I'm Alice: an Aussie buddhist chick who got onto this organisation as a result of trawling through Wikipedia's archives on Social Activism. That happened because I'd just read an article about what society can expect from itself in the future; what kind of worldview we're likely to take. The options were: a) nihilism b)fundamentalism or c) activism.
Guess which one I picked? :P
I had a bit of an epiphany where I realised that I wanted to be apart of bringing about positive change in the world, helping other people on a large scale and actually doing something about what I perceive as som of humanity's greatest problems. Bascially, I wanted (and still want) to save the world and this seems to be a pretty good starting place.
Some of the issues which make me tear my hair out are: abuse of human rights, social and economical inequity, global warming, extreme poverty, oppression and war (particularly war crimes).
I feel like we have to quit waiting around for someone to fix our problems for us and start taking action to change our own lives and the lives of others, albeit in a way that is ultimately beneficial to as many people as possible.
I aim in the future to get more involved with causes that relate to to issues I'm passionate about and maybe start up an organisation of my own one day.
My motto in life? Don't just sit around thinking about it, DO something! ^_^
