Name: Ashley
I live: USA
Born on December 6th, 1984 From Iowa, in the United States *Hi everyone!* My name is Ashley and I am an ActNow Intern from Sept-November 2005. I spent semester 2, 2005 at Macquarie Uni in Sydney. Back home I study convergence journalism, anthropology and natural resources at the University of Missouri. I was born and raised in Lytton, Iowa population 300. Growing up in a small town is an experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything. My family consists of my parents and my little brother Andy, although can I still call him little? He just turned 18. My family is very close due largely to the fact that my parents believed in travelling as a family. Every summer growing up we would take two week long family vacations. It’s hard not to like your family with all the forced bonding time. I just happened to be placed with ActNow when I applied for an internship in Australia and I have loved working here. A lot of hard work and dedication went into the ActNow finished product and I am proud to have been a part of that. *What happened in my life that taught me the most*- my class in high school was very small, I graduated with 40 other students. When we were in year 11 we lost of one of our classmates to a brain tumour. Earlier this year, another one of our classmates was killed in a car accident. Having to deal with the loss of two of my classmates, people my own age has really taught me to value life. I know it sounds overdone but it really has affected my thinking. I always try to do everything I can with the time I have. *What’s my favourite place on earth*- It’s hard to pick a favourite place but I would say that I am never happier than when I am out in nature. I love a good bushwalk and am a sucker for stars. Seeing the Uluru night sky had to be one of the most amazing experiences of my life. *My Vision*- My vision is of a world where every citizen has open access to information about important issues taking place all around the world. For my part, I am going to try and read an international newspaper everyday to help foster my worldview.
