Name: Brodie

Hi! I’m Brodie, I’m 21 and I grew up in the sunny city of Perth, Western Australia, but I now live in Melbourne. I’m currently doing my third/fourth year of a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Spanish, and a Bachelor of Public Policy and Management at Melb Uni. Seeing innocent people suffer (particularly kids) really makes me wanna get out there and save them all, but there are so many issues and problems out there it really is quite daunting. I’m hoping that my public policy studies will give me some insight into how the governing structures work and how to create policy changes that really will help these people out. I would love to see an Australia that is all-accepting, that recognises and respects the original inhabitants of this land and changes its attitudes towards them, that stops following the US’ footsteps and creates its own path, that doesn’t incarcerate asylum seekers in the desert (especially seeing as the British were the original “illegal immigrants"), and that doesn’t sink down into the blind, race-based patriotism that we’re experiencing at the moment and looks up to realise the bigger world it’s a part of. I’ve never been able to simply answer the question “Who is your hero and why?”, but I guess one person I’ve admired for his actions is Peter Benenson, the founder of Amnesty International, who saw an injustice (two Portuguese students arrested for raising their glasses in a toast to freedom) and took immediate actions to make things right, thus inspiring others to do the same and start a worldwide organisation for human rights. I love it when you see people who are walking along thinking they’re cool and then accidentally doing something stupid like walking into a pole or falling over...haha... I’ve got two quotes that I’m always quoting: “Live life to the full” and “Variety is the spice of life”. Yeah.
