Heya. People that know me, know that I am incredibly passionate about trying to make a difference in this world. I suppose that starts to sound like a cliche after a while, but if more people felt the same way I do, more action would be taken to make this earth a better place. Within my school and local community, I am the sole organiser of most fundraisers, charity functions and events to raise money for organisations that I feel passionate about.
There are only a few other people within my community that I know feel the same way as me about the world and we are banding together to do all that we can to help. Last year, one of my friends founded the Greg Lees Foundation with the help of only a few other people the same age as us, we have got it up and running and are already raising money for the foundation.
Greg Lees was our school chaplain who passed away from cancer late last year. My friend (the main organiser) came up with the idea of creating a foundation in his name as he was a huge inspiration to those of us that feel the same way as he did about doing what we can to help this world.
The main aim of our foundation is to give financial aid to families that can not afford to give their children the proper education that they deserve. I'm not entirely sure about the exact amount we have raised in the past 4 months since we officially started the foundation, but I do know that so many people have been right behind us and have helped out in so many ways.
Mr Lee's wife created a cd especially for the foundation with which we have been selling for $10 each. It has four songs on it that are sung by Mr Lee's family friends. The songs are truly inspirational and when we first played the song to the public there was not a dry eye to be seen. Every single person cried at the sound of the voice of a girl named Kayla Bonnici. She has the voice of an angel and yet she is only 12 years old. Kayla's family, along with our school community have been working together to spread the word of our wonderful foundation.
Perhaps one day, we will be able to help many other families outside just our area. Please visit http://www.burgmann.act.edu.au/community/gregleesfoundation.html and read about it.
