Hi Everyone!
A little about me and the reason why I joined Habitat for Humanity Australia (HFHA) and work with the Global Village (GV) program. I worked in the corporate sector for many years and left one year to take some time, re-focus and see what I really wanted to make my life stand for. I completed 2 years of Pastoral Leadership college and when I finished there, I realised that my passion was to help people help others. This is when I became involved with HFHA. HFHA helps people that live in poverty housing situations or have no housing. Some of the reasons why I believe that the HFHA model works, is beause they are not a 'hand out' organisation but rather a 'hand up' organisation. So they set up partnerships with families where they also need to get involved with their housing solution. Check out the website to find out how.
The GV program is fantastic - it allows teams from 12 - 20+ people to travel to another country and be involved, alongside the fmailies and communities in building a home. Imagine... going to Cambodia for 2 weeks, helping another family out of their poverty housing situation while being immersed in another cultural experience! It is a life changing and deep experince. Lots of teams go, from youth-school, Uni, corporate, etc.
