Hi, I'm Alex
What inspires me?
I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by positive and great people, who all inspire me very much...
A bit about me
I studied commerce, and work as an auditor. When I'm not auditing, I'm mainly an ambassador for Beyondblue/Inspire and President of ALIV.
Recently, I've been working on the "Kindness Project"...which will hopefully start running soon!..
So what makes me want to act now?
I think society can be pretty selfish and greedy. The world would probably be a better place with some kindness. I've been selfish in the past, but as I've grown up, I've realised the importance of generosity (of time, knowledge and loving!), which makes me work hard to set a good example..
A few of my favourite quotes:
"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."
-Leo Buscaglia
"Remember, you can always find East by staring directly at the sun."
-Bart Simpson
Matilda: I became...
Hansel: What?
Matilda: Bulimic.
Derek Zoolander: You can read minds?
-Zoolander
Some ideas/actions?
I think it really depends on what you're passionate about...! But if you want to learn about volunteering and charities in general, check out www.aliv.org.au

...until I pack away my suit, laptop and coffee cup
and put on...nothing? lol
SO FREAKN EXCITED!
So I'm sitting at lunch today, listening to a bunch of corporates whinge about how little they are getting paid
...in the back of my mind knowing that the minimum wage has not increased this year and stays at $14/hr
I just think it's ridiculous how bankers can complain about how small their payrises are, when there are people out there struggling to feed their families. I find it amazingly narrow-minded...
Starting Sunday 14th, 2009

Man, it's really good to see actnow and reachout back online again!
I just saw the next incubator is up for applications, I think I might apply.. can't believe it was over 2 years ago when I applied for incubator 5?
time flies..
I really like this quote:
Hate is baggage. Life's too short to be pissed off all the time. It's just not worth it.
I was watching this video about Facebook and it's quite scary:
http://www.albumoftheday.com/facebook/
To summarise, the owners of facebook have all rights to everything we upload onto facebook. Even when we delete our account, EVERYTHING is saved in their servers.
If you become a big celebrity in 20 years time - Facebook can dig up photos of you in your youth - blind drunk/taking drugs/naked! and they have the rights to them!
Hey,
check out a new TTD that I recently posted. Email me if you want to know more!

I found a website with a calender of enviro events

I'll have a scroll through and see if there are any cool Things To Do around Sydney
haha, Meli's comment on funnelweb's opinion piece about "weapons for all" made me remember a quote from Mother Theresa:
"If all the money that is being spent on finding ways to kill people was used instead to feed them and house them, clothe them and educate them - how beautiful that would be. We are too often afraid of the sacrifices we might have to make. But where there is true love, there is joy a peace."
Yes, it is a bit hippy...but I think the 1st part is so true.
Check out the military budgets of the top nations:

China: $65bn
Russia: $50bn
France: $45bn
UK: $42.8bn
