Who I am
Hello! My name is Elena Wong and I am an ActNow intern. I am currently studying abroad and taking courses through Boston University Sydney Internship Program. In the States I attend Wheaton College in MA and am studying Sociology, Economics and Political Science. I am from San Francisco, California and the youngest of three girls. My family is very close and I am the only one to venture out across the ocean to study.
What makes me want to Act?
I act because I want to see a change. I want to see a change in the way that we live, act, feel, survive. If everyone goes around with the idea that they personally don’t have to do anything, then nothing would change. The world has to change in order for it to function. If we don’t act, no new ideas would be developed, people wouldn’t
What you did that taught you the most?
I know this is going to sound corny and very cliché, but the thing that taught me the most, was I took a chance. I came to Australia to study when I am the type of person who likes order and control. I came into a city I knew little about to live for a semester. I realized I needed to change the way that I lived and take a risk, so something out of the ordinary, something so unlike anything I have ever done. The outcome: I love it. It is the most amazing feeling, and I urge everyone to take a chance, a risk, do something so unlike what you would normally do, its so energizing.
My Vision for the World:
This question boggles my mind because there are so many options to say and to use to make the world a more positive place. I believe communication and responsibility are key issues. Disputes and conflicts have turned violent because of the lack of communication. The world has completely changed because people aren’t responsible for their actions anymore. There is always something or someone else to blame for them. It is important for people to take control over what they have done and not put the blame on others. These are the first steps, I believe needed to create a more functional world and a better society.
How to make my vision a reality:
One thing you could do to start this change is to own up to your actions, good or bad. Take responsibility and instead of blaming the dog for chewing up and eating your homework, explain that it was your own doing. If everyone begins to fess up for their own actions, think of the change that would happen.
What superpower would you have?
The superpower that I have always wanted is to freeze time. If I was tired in the morning I could freeze time and sleep a little bit longer. It has always been a dream of mine ever since I watched a TV show in which the main character was able to put her fingers together and, boom…time was frozen. While I have tried numerous times by placing my two index fingers together, I sadly don’t have that power…yet.
My Favorite Place:
I’m sure some of you may make fun of me but my favorite place is in my room, in my bed. I love it. It’s so warm and comfy and it’s so safe. My favorite thing is when its cold and rainy outside, and I can just wrap myself around my sheets and sleep all day, I can just relax and be warm
