Name: hannah
I live: dreamland

hello!

My name is Hannah and i am currently working as a intern for Act now. I am studying social work and am in my third year.
my fav. part of actnow is reading others stories ....
Its always comforting and inspiring to know that others care...especially in a world where there is so much apathy and self involvement .....

I am passionate about...
refugee issues
indigenous health
women's rights
global poverty
sustainability - environment (gm foods)
same sex issues/ discrimination
being honest and living in harmony with others

who inspires me???
individuals who are passionate about making positive social change...

what makes me laugh?

always: the chasers war on everything ......friends and the strangeness of life.
the world is a crazy place..... but.....
act now helps me channel frustrations into positive actions.

Only when the last tree has died
and the last river has been poisoned
and the last fish been caught
will we relise we cannot eat money

The aria awards get active.... 30-10-2006 05:15

I don't usually tune into watch the arias, but this year i am glad that i did. Honestly i am pretty out of sync in terms of charts and popular music - i havn't listened to the radio in adges.....but it was really great to see that this year there were some great people being given attention.

Towards the end of the program Silverchair paid tribute to midnight oil with a cover version of one of their songs. At the end of the Set the lead singer - Daniel Johns spray painted PG 4 PM on the wall .......for those of you who don't know Peter Garret (PG) is the lead singer of the oils. It was really kool to see such a political statement on a mainstream program and station. Following this Powder Finger singer - Bernard Fanning added to this by stating that Peter Garet and activists such as Joh Butler were not alone in thier comittment to make the world a better place .....

I don't think this wouldn't of happened 2 years ago ......i suppose the biggest challenge as an ActNow intern is to make being active cool....Moments like this make my job easier...i hope that there are more to come!.....Maybe these celebs might want to consider getting on the AN bandwagon....lets hope!

p/s excuse my spelling - i really cant spell......and spell wizard is not on this blog....

STARTTS refugee art exhibition 2006 28-10-2006 09:59

On thursday night i went to the opening of the STARTTS refugee art exhibition. It was held in an old musty church with two different levels. The art was displayed on both levels in dimmed lighting. All the artworks were incredibly beautiful. Each artwork had a story to tell. It was so amazing to see so many people showing their support . I hope that events like this continue to happen and that refugees who come to Australai are given opportinities to have their stories heard.
