I am a 24 year old mum and education student. I feel passionate about the immense issues humanity is currently facing.
The other day I was walking with my six year old and we talked about some trees that have been recently removed to make way for development. He was concerned about where the animals that lived there would go, and said that people should stop chopping down trees. If a six year old feels that we as humans have the capacity to do something to change the world then anyone can. I feel an immense responsibility in the sense that I am the filter through which both my children, and to an extent, my future students will form their perspective of the world.
It saddens me that this perspective is largely negative. There are inavoidable environmental concerns, as well as the abuse of rights globally. It is easy to feel that one person can't change the world. But I hope by becoming more informed and active in issues I feel strongly about I may be able to effect some change, however small.
