the end of a chapter at the beginning of the book.... 07-11-2008 03:51

This was a quote an old counsellor told me when we finished workin together and i really think this fits here. While my time has officially ended as an Actnow Incubator, the journey of taking action and raising awareness about depression certainly has not.

this has been a journey full of discovery, not only about mental health but more about myself and realising my full potential is endless really. That i can achieve whatever i want and taking action doesnt mean saving 1000's or 100000's of children from poverty but educating myself and those around as to what could be done and the small part we can play in this wonderful world.

Through this opportunity it has opened my eyes to the different possibilities i can persue in regard to mental health and the Inspire foundation as a whole has contributed greatly to this.

Thank you to all the wonderful people i met in Sydney, and the lovely people behind the Inspire Foundation.

We're off and running! 24-08-2008 08:05

Well guys, i have started....

today i distributed posters in my local basketball stadium and have asked two people i know to post them up at one local primary school and also another recreational centre.

tomoro i plan to go into my old school and speak to one of the school counsellors there in regard to handing out more promotional material, putting an article in their school newsletter and about holding an information session for senior school students.

right now i am designing an educational pamphlet that i hope to get printed and have on hand when i go into schools for information sessions or just simply to have on display.

i emailed my local community house to see if i can also put an article in their newsletter a long with my local newspaper.

Keep on makin a difference.

so surreal!!!!!1 19-08-2008 11:09

A quick update....

everything is happening so quickly, i have received feedback from 2 websites in regard to promotional materials and i am currently in the process of ordering these things. I have also heard back from 1 school and i am looking to meet with them in a week or so.

It is really scary to see things taking shape and that my small voice can make a difference in the world and more importantly in young peoples lives.

im actually writing this in my business lecture...sshhh
i hope no one else feels as overwhelmed like me.

1st for my action.... 16-08-2008 07:08

Well i have started on the mere basics in taking action on my issue. This week i have collected as much information from supporting internet sites of depression and also emailed organisations such as Kids Helpline and Beyond Blue to get promotional materials. On top of this i have also emailed a few local school counsellors to see if depression is an issue in their school and if so, were they interested in an information session.

In the beginning i felt really overwhelmed and didnt know where to start, but i found it was a matter of biting the bullet and just going for it. My self confidence isn't very high and i didn't believe that i had the strength and doubted if people would take me seriously. However, now that i have begun the process i think i can feel the confidence slowly grow.

The hardest thing for me so far is to believe in myself as a person who can create change.

take care all, keep going strong.

through the good and bad.... 31-07-2008 02:14

I have realised that nothing can stop the truly determined, not abuse in the home, or even mental health. However having a site like Actnow makes those determined people to continue to push through the bad times that dont even affect their world to try and make the world better for others!

it is these people that are admirable, that love to help others and make a change in this world. They are able to put their own issues to the side and make a real difference in the world one step at a time.

i Just thought we should acknowledge these people.
