So... I'm 22, I currently live in Bordeaux, which is in the Southwest of France.
Being vegetarian is probably the most constant way that I attempt to act in order to effect change. I don't agree with the way animals are industrially farmed in our societies, and given the option I prefer not to eat things that I can see think and feel.
In general I make a conscious effort to contribute as little as possible to the stockpiles of waste our societies create. Therefore I refuse plastic bags, junk mail, unnecessary paper mail and excessively packaged products.
From September - December 2007 I traveled to Madagascar with WWF International's Global Youth Volunteer Programme. There I saw how damaging poverty can be and at the same time how much more we in economically rich countries have than we need. Working to conserve Madagascar's forests, I saw the extent to which people there rely on the forest, and was able to more clearly grasp how much our lives depend on the environment.
I would encourage everyone to invest seriously to alleviate poverty and protect the environment.
I signed up to be an actnow incubator because I think actnow is a great use of online space and a good way to promote interest in cultural issues. Actnow demonstrates that young people have ideas that are worth listening to and lets us share those ideas with the wider world.
