what the future holds?

well toady liek many days lately brings teh question what should i do with my future? there are so many decisions peopel our age have to make and being a young carer means i have a few extra thinsg to take into consideration.

what do i study at uni? do i even go to uni? where do i go to uni? will i have to move out? where will i work? how will i pay for it all? will i still have time for all teh commitmenst i have now?

soooo many adults put pressure on people our age to make these decisions and were expected to know all the answers, but the way i see it is i'm 17 and in 4 montsh time im expected to apply for a uni cpurse thats going to set me up for my future. perhaps with teh statistics that people of my generation will have 7 major career changes in their live sthe safest bet is to put my choice sin a hat or better yet set it as a facebook status and see what everyone else says!

well today the 7th of April the Young Carers NSW postcard is released! i'm so excited. look out around NSW in particular in Sydney for the cards

well this arvo i signed off on the design for the YC postcards!

a huge thanks must go to Lorna for the gazillions of emails we have shared and Kris and Pat and the team from Avant cards for their extremely generous support, you trukly are making a difference and i greatly appreciate it.

so for all you NSWer's keep an eye out for the postcard in youth week 2010 as this is when it will be released/distributed!

ahhh having a bit of a stress today. artwork for postcard is due on friday and i hav eno one to change the format to the required design specs. the files are in Sydney and i'm in Canberra and the only Graphic designer person i know is in Wagga!! eeep.

oh well i'm sure things will come togetherjust gotta try an dthinkof all the ideas I can and use any contacts i know of!

3, 2, 1... ahh now thats done let me share some FANTASMAGORICAL NEWS with you!

the application to get a sponsored postcard for carers in NSW has been accepted!! wooohooo. i received confirmation within the last hour and i couldn't be happier!! we have a short deadline to meet to get the artwork finalised but it is hoped the cards will be released in Youth Week!!

thanks so much to everyone who helped me get this far especially Lorna from Carers NSw who has helped with design issues, Nigel for supporting me at ANYCAT, Ben and Atari for making me feel liberated and helping me get this ACTION planned and to all the young caresr at ANYCAT for helping me come up with ideas and especially to all the Young Carers out there cos its you who inspire me to want to make a difference and i hope this will!!

so while i wait for a response from the postcard company i thought i should get stuck into the other idea we had. Now i don'yt know about you but we get school newsletters fairly reguarly and i think there is always space for a story or news about a community group, especially ones relevant to youth.

What i hope to do is write a short piece about young carers and send it via email or snail mail to schools in NSW to put into their newsletters. now i realise there are lots of schools in NSW so i figured i'd start locally and branch out from there. all i'm going to ask schools to do is to put the article in their next newsletter and suggest that maybe they could do a regular section on community groups or groups in society like Young Carers.

i hope that by targeting newsletters both students and parents will read about Young Carers and become more aware or perhaps even identify themselves as a carer.

so if you have any suggestions on the best way to go about such a project or things you think i should write let me know cos i'd love to hear from you :) perhaps you might even ask your school to feature an article about something your passionate about in your newsletter

Wooo hooo!!

 Yesterday was the Day! Since ANYCAT i have been researching ways to get a Young Carers Postcard. Whilst funding doesn't allow us to create and get one of our own printed i have come up with a way. I ahve found a company that do print runs of postcards that get sent throughout Australia and each run they do a sponsored card. I put together a proposal and with help from the YC team at Carers NSW designing teh artwork we have applied to get a sponsored card. Yesterday afternoon i sent away teh application so fingers crossed it goes well and we get a run of YC postcards distributed throughout NSW, especially to youth friendly venues!

well its finally happening!

my big dream is for a media campaign for young carers so i have started with a survey for yioung carers. the survey asks yc's to say what they'd like in a media campiagn and what tehy want the public to know etc. the survey is currently being circulated amongst carers and i hope to collate the results in march!

A long term project but we are getting there!
