stop thinking at me! 03-10-2008 04:13

I've been doing some research on some issues in the modelling industry - and my goodness there are some big voices out there!

From the editors of major magazines to government departments or concerned parents - everyone seems to want to share their opinion.  They all sound perfectly convinced they are correct and they all assume that I feel the same way they do.

Do you ever notice that people often try and convince you they are right?  Sometimes they use really persuasive language or make concrete statements you'd find it impossible to disagree with.  It can get pretty difficult not to be swayed by someone elses fancy words - especially if you're new to the topic.

Make sure when you're looking up issues that you take the time to read around, and don't let anyone bully you into accepting their opinions.  Just because they're talking louder or using bigger words doesn't mean that they are more right.  Get to know what the key points are and then take a moment to make up your own mind.

Once you're sure what your own thoughts are, you can decide on the best action to take.

Have a great long weekend!

Guess what?  I'm going to the polls tomorrow to vote in my local council.  Regrettably, my local council has been under administration for the last decade or so, which is why I find this council election so exciting!

However, I did have a little trouble negotiating my way through all the political cant when I was looking up my candidates.  It was a bit difficult to find some solid policy rather than just phrases like 'I'm committed'.

The good thing about the hunt, though, was that it made me consider what I thought was important for my community.  Maybe you should take a moment to think about that too - is it roads, rates, and rubish?  graffiti? facilities? programs? business?

What do you want your local council to be focussing on for the next four years?  Once I had worked that out for myself, it was much easier to decide who I wanted to vote for.

...can't wait til tomorrow!
