Is time really speeding up?

Time is an illusion, as subject and object are really one. Is time really speeding up?

Time! How come we seem to have less of it ?

The modern world with it's hustle and bustle is a much different place than it was only a few short years ago. When I was growing up time seemed to be standing still. It seemed to take forever to go from one Christmas to the next. These days I fine we still haven't put everything away from the last one, and then it's time to get it all out again. Christmas then Easter in the blink of an eye. Is time speeding up or is it an illusion?

Well it seems impossible to say that time is speeding up doesn't it. How could it possibly speed up there is 60 seconds in every minute and 60 minutes in every hour. Can't just skim a few nano seconds off each second and hope nobody notices thats obviously crazy. Maybe it's that we are so distracted these days that we don't notice time as much as we use to. There are many theory's as to whats going on with time but only a very few actually understand it at it's core.

First of all we have to get a good solid understanding of time. What is it where does it come form and where does it go. Well time was invented by human beings I mean to say, if you asked your cat what time is it, your cat would tell you the time is now. You see time to your cat is only ever now. There is never a time when it is not now. Only we intelligent human beings have been able to invent time. Of course time is useful when setting an appointment to meet someone in the future, it's a calibration mechanism to the past and future, and when you meet whom ever you have the appointment to meet in the future, you will meet in the now. So Time is a measuring device like a ruler. We can overlay that ruler over events and mark off the events that way we have mapped the event to a calibrated scale on the time ruler giving us the ability to look back at past events and forward to future event projections or predictions.

According to Dr Carl Johan Calleman who wrote a book called solving the greatest mystery of our time the Mayan Calendar. This book went in to detail of time past, present and future. Dr Calleman suggests that time since the big bang has been progressively going through cycles firstly long cycles through to today the very short cycles.

The diagram below shows the cycles.

The Cellular Cycle commenced somewhere in the vicinity of 16.4 billion years (Big Bang)
The Mammalian Cycle 820 million years (First animals)
Familial Cycle 41 million years (First monkeys)
Tribal Cycle 2 million years (First Humans)
Regional Cycle 102,000 years (Spoken Language)
National Cycle 5,125 years (Written Language)
Planetary Cycle 256 years years (Industrial Age 1769)
Galactic Cycle 12.8 years (Age of Ethics) – we are in this age now.
Universal Cycle .72 of a year (still the future)

So according to this chart which was first drawn up by Dr Calleman it shows that the same amount of stuff occurs in each cycle but the cycles are shorter each time.
The Mayans left us clues with their intricate detail of time. Their Calendars are very accurate. I won't go into the detail here it's all in Dr Calemans Book if you care to get it. But My point here is that this is one indication of time speeding up. Time to a human being is only in the mind. As all things are only in the mind. We are not the mind we are human beings with a mind. The mind is a tool with which we are able to make complex calculations and decisions usually with the intention of making our life better although the mind works just as well the other way, (constructively or destructively).

Every night we go to bed and sleep. During the sleep process time stops in our consciousness. We no longer measure our being here with time while asleep. From the time we go to sleep to the time we wake up it seems only like a short time, feels more like minutes more than hours. Imagine this. Lay down or sit in a chair do nothing, no reading, no watching TV, no listening to the radio or music no distractions at all. Do it for 6 - 8 hours, then see how long 6 – 8 hours really is, go on I dare you.

Well I guess you get the picture 6 - 8 hours would be torcher. The modern civilization we are currently in entertains our minds the mind is so distracted and busy it's almost like we are asleep. There is so much information to take in everyday, so much to get done everyday, with the high cost of the lifestyle we live in the modern age of stuff, we have to earn more than ever before, this in turn has us running to keep up everyday and with the worry, anxiety and pressure of just making life work. The mind doesn't have time to notice time, just like when you're asleep your mind doesn't notice time then either. So is time speeding up? The short answer is NO, Time is not speeding up, but we are being forced to do more within that time. I guess it's a form of compression more done is less time give the illusion of time speeding up. All this is built on a false premise. This is the promise of a better lifestyle. Do we have a better lifestyle today than our parents or their parents? Well we have more stuff, and we have better cars and bigger homes and bigger TV sets. So in that way yes we do have it better, but on the other hand at what cost? More Stress, Anxiety, Depression, the poor health.... So our forebears had better health and were on the whole happier than our generation but they had less stuff. Oh and more time.

In the end we may face having to go back to a simpler lifestyle once again if in the near future those in the peak oil camp are proven to be right.
