Today, as usual, I went to catch the train at my local train station. After surviving the pollution of the pacific highway I was mortified to discover that all the trees that used to be planted on my train station had been removed. They were such lovely trees with their brightly colored purple flowers.

I couldn’t really believe it. What was once a very green and vibrant station was now bare concrete- left to be baked in global warming induced temperatures. As you can tell – I was pretty devastated.

So then it occurred to me …I am an ActNow member and Intern and I can do something! So I ventured to the ActNow site to find Inspiration and ideas. After some research it was obvious to me that the best place to start would be my local council. I decided to write a letter of complaint which would go something like this…

Dear Council people, (well I hadn’t done too much research)

I  am writing as a concerned young citizen of so and so council and yesterday I realised that all the trees at my station were missing! As a result I was forced to stand in the Sun while waiting for the typically delayed train to arrive. I am concerned that this action has happened without proper consultation with the local community. Trees are a vital part of ecosystem and I am upset to hear that these trees have been removed. Would you please advise me on this matter and let me know what plans have been drawn up to replace the removed trees.

I hope to hear from you soon,

Regards,

Misshannah

Once I had sent this email I instantly felt a sense of empowerment. I was not going to stand by without an explanation.

TO BE CONTINUED… so stay tuned
