Recently I studied some articles on Capital Punishment and I came across a statistic stating that it costs a lot to keep prisoners alive BUT its costs 'dramatically' more to send these same criminals (on death row) to their death. How bizarre! In my opinion Capital Punishment should be banned all over the world and that I am proud that Australia no longer has it. This statistic should clearly show that the death penalty is wrong in all kinds of ways, human rights, money issues and that 'eye for an eye' revenge is horrifically stupid. Some say that Australia is generally for it and are glad that the Bali 9 were facing that same death penalty, so you could say that Australia has this punishment, even though it may be on different soil.
I would sleep better at night knowing that the person who murdered someone that I loved was rotting in jail and not escaping their punishment by being legally executed. Not meaning to be harsh and also, no one I know has been murdered but it’s a fair point. I have always thought that everyone deserves a second chance and that does include mass murders and terrorists. I am not saying that we should let them go about their business after a life sentence, I am saying that these people need to have the chance to understand that what they have done is wrong, they need the chance to serve their sentence and live out their days (if they are safe enough) with family (if they are still in contact) or alone in a quiet house.
I saw a photo of Sadam being hung and the first thought that came to mind was 'its horrific enough that it happened, but it's even worse that it was photographed and filmed' and I know that a friend of mine said that it was one of the best things that could have happened. Although, I know my friend’s intentions were good, I still didn't see it as a 'good' thing to happen.
I am not sure of this, but I may be the only person wishing Hitler didn't commit suicide! I would love to see this man learning and reliving what he did, so he could see how wrong it was. Fill his head with the suffering that he made people go through just so he could apologise or attempted to understand. But on the other hand I am glad he is not here today as I know many would agree.
So why kill the person who killed? Or raped? Or just why kill at all?
I also read in an article that Capital Punishment doesn't help the crime rate and states with it have more criminal activity than ones that don't have it! Can anybody official see this? Don't they see that it’s not helping anyone except for society in the slightest way? If at all.
No one deserves to die.
