Have you ever wondered what it takes to run a country?
I believe you should at least have the basics:
I believe the following are required:
Global:
- Understand and relate to at least 3 other cultures out of your own country.
- Understand major historic events and the occurrences that led up to those points.
- Understand what a society wants and needs to survive and how that changes over time.
- The impacts we can have on others: foreign trade, war, pollution, tourism, economics, media, technology, sustainability, environment
- The impacts other countries have on us and who will be effected.
Personal:
- Make others happy, knows how to have a good time.
- Communicate on a level that suits your audience
- Has the attitude ‘Just because it’s different, doesn’t mean it’s stupid or won’t work’.
- Lateral, creative and strategic thinker
- Suspicious of corruption and hidden agendas.
- Stands up for the views of the country and the core beliefs/morals.
Community:
- What environments encourage positive social behaviour
- What do parents need to raise kids
- What do kids need to become successful
- What do communities need to reduce crime, poverty, gambling, bad health (depression, illness, smoking…)
My experience with business, large projects and entrepreneurial planning suggests that the Prime Minister must have walls full of mind maps, brain storming sessions, timelines, goals, objectives & milestones, mission statements, inspirational quotes…
I’ve probably left out a few walls… I’m guessing there’s about 4 large pieces of paper per wall, and a minimum of 20 walls, which would give about 80 to 100 walls.
This probably explains why people with a lot of power and responsibility have big mansions.
Why don’t we care?
- it’s too complicated to follow
- one person can’t make a difference
- ‘we must be doing ok…. I’m fine’
- there’s other people managing Australia with more skills and experience than I
- we are ill-informed to make any judgement or decisions
Does the news exist to make politics look interesting when politicians can’t be bothered (or seem to care) to tell us what they do?
Proposal
I propose that John Howard get serious when it comes to reality TV shows.
As disgusting as it may be to see our PM in the big brother house, wouldn’t it be interesting to see what kind of PM we really have?
I’ll take it one step further.. In order for John Howard to remain PM of Australia (or any future PM for that matter), they are required each month to do a 30-60 minute show that profiles the steps Australia has taken due to Australian politics. And I’m not talking about a flip chart, PowerPoint, parliamentary meeting, or anything dead boring, dreary and intentionally political. I’m talking about presenting. Being proud to go in front of the camera and Inspire us all to feel proud and respectful of the decisions being made about the country.
Now I know not everyone will be happy. Some will want to watch The Simpsons instead. Some will think it’s promotional political hype to further their own power in government. Well from my perspective, it will be the first time in my life where I can actually feel like I know where Australia is headed.
Wouldn’t it be nice to know (for example), we’re not going to war tomorrow?
That we’re investing Australia’s time and resources wisely?
Or even just knowing and realising that there are problems out there.
Yes, the news does an ok job.. but most news and media groups don’t care (or aren’t allowed to) tell you what’s really going on. They’re more interested the story, the ratings and the societal effect than the truth.
This is my starting point.
My weapon is the people who agree with me and read this document.
These are my demands:
Australian people care what happens to Australia
Political figures give Australian's insight into what they actually do!
FYI, I am not someone with too much time up my sleeve that types out strange documents. I am a 22 year old Graduate of Multimedia that feels a little pissed off with my disconnection and disassociation with Australia and it’s current political beliefs.
