My world is just like yours.

Well, almost.

It’s still stained with blood. Suffering, Conflict and Fear don’t just live in history books, but climb out of the pages and squeeze into our lives. No way is this a perfect world.

But they’re disadvantaged. Most don’t survive very long, because Hope, Love and Empathy are out in full force, patrolling the streets.

Maybe the difference between our worlds is that more people care. Emotions bounce off one person, and into another. Strangers aren’t afraid to expose their vulnerability with a smile, and twinkles in the eye are contagious.

The world no longer struggles to balance itself between wealth and poverty. Things have evened out a lot. People have different priorities now. For example, fire-fighters and train conductors get paid more, and celebrities get paid less. We also enjoy life more. We still shoulder responsibility, but there’s a little less Tying up the Tie for Work, and a lot more Kicking the Ball in the Park.

Rest assured that when you come into the Future, you won’t have to worry about the bitter taste that GM foods leave in your mouth. You will feel amazing when you pig out, scrub your skin or paint your lips, because everything here is ethically produced. I guess the world just breathes easier.

But you’ll have to take care not to get wiped out by passing cyclists on the roads (please remember this). They’re everywhere! Cars are slowly being replaced by trains, bicycles and walkers, as more people are willing to shrink our collective footprint on the earth. And if in the Future you want to take the piss out of someone, don’t call them a ‘bleeding-hearted hippy’. This has become one of the highest compliments one person can give another.

If for a (corny) moment we pretend that young people are like sailboats, then Inspire is the Lighthouse. Young people around the world turn to Inspire for direction. These days Inspire is just as recognised as the UN (but with more credibility ;). Even Oprah has dedicated a show to Inspire; for the leading role they play in lending an ear, heart and hands to the world.

What I love most about this world is that it’s full of colour, and no colour at all. There’s uniqueness and variety, but less branding based on how you look, what you believe or who you love. I love that we now carry our voices boldly above our heads, like bobbing helium balloons.

Some day you’ll see what I mean,

Mel (the year 2028)
