Taking Action with Young Carers Australia!!

Meet the 2009 Young Carers (ANYCAT) team from around Australia!

9 inspiring young carers from across the country participated in a workshop in our Sydney office last week. They came together to think about how they can make the world a better place for young carers and what that might look like.

Check out the Young Carers and their very supportive staff here:

During the workshop Young Carers identified what was important to them.

They also identified all the possible ways they could take action that could help young carers throughout Australia (they did this by running around the Inspire fun space - see the picture below). There are quite a lot of actions we could take when we started thinking about it!!

After thinking about everything that was important to them and brainstorming all the ways they could take action on all the things they care about (see the pics below) they then came up with some individual ways they could take action.

Now having identifed their actions the young carers will now work on their action plans back in their home states and then start taking action!! They will share their experiences via regular blog updates and comment updates - reflecting on their visions for change and whether they meet their aims while also taking stock of the highlights, challenges and impacts that taking action has had on them as individuals.

Send them your support and hear about how their actions are coming along by checking out:

  • The comments section below and
  • The comments section on the ActNow gallery page that shows what Young Carers are passionate about!!

They will also be bringing back lots of ideas to share with other young carers in their home states so young carers in each state around Australia can work together to develop actions to help other young carers as well!!

Hi guys, im tabitha and i was one of the young carers who did the workshop at actnow with the ANYCAT group. I can't help but dream big lol so my ideal wish/dream/action is to start a yung caresr media campaighn. i want young carers work to be recognised and for us to be seen as a valued group in society.

soooo in order for thsi to happen my initial action was to create a survey. i have got some questions on paper. the main focus of the questionarre/survey ( whatever you choose to call it :) is to identify what young carers want known. what medias appeal best to target audiences(carers who can identify or then access services, but also teachers and medical professionals to identify carers) and ideas young carers or others have to raise awareness. unfortunately i have been uber busy of late but its a work in progress. so im putting it to you that if you have any questions you think may be handy to include send me a message cos im always open to ideas.

ill keep you posted
tab :)

p.s. sorry the post is so long haha i tend to blabber!!
