Tearing down the media house from the inside out

I took action by writing to the media about the media.

My action was to submit opinion pieces to media outlets commenting on the hypocracy of the media and the problems of body images.

Writing them seemed deceptively simple. It forced me to articulate my ideas and reshape them into a creative form which was accessible yet interesting. I enjoyed the process and writing in journalistic style. Next time, I'd probably engage in editing and reviewing a lot more. I didn't really leave enough time to do that when I was planning my action. Also, though I showed my opinion pieces to my friends, I think I should have shown them to journos or experts to see what they thought.

Though, my opinions didn't get published, my actions were personally rewarding and resulted in me becoming more involved in university publications, which I see as a mere stepping stone for future actions, particularly in commentative journalism. I'd encourage everyone to hammer their opinion down on paper and send it off somewhere. It takes guts but it's thrilling as well!
