Check out my anti-John Howard sticker...

A national day of protest against John Howard's new Industrial Relations Laws was held on the 28th of June 06.

I'm totally unimpressed with the new laws, so I attended the Melbourne rally. Apparently over 100,000 other Melburnians were also disgusted enough to make an appearance.

A couple of days before the rally, my boyfriend told me about his idea for a bumper-sticker. He thought John Howard’s comment that unhappy workers should find another job was ridiculous (obviously the new laws will follow workers wherever they go!). He thought it would be better for John Howard to get another job, and thought a ‘Get Another Job, Johnny!’ bumper-sticker would be funny.

Something you need to know about Matt – he often has moments of brilliance followed by moments of panic. Most of his ideas never become reality. That’s where my over-enthusiastic attitude actually comes in handy…

After designing the sticker on the computer, I rang around and found a company that could print them cheap and at short notice (it was the day before the rally). I picked the stickers up that afternoon. The next day I drove into Melbourne, parked my car, and headed for Federation Square. I sold over 200 stickers, which made up for the printing costs almost exactly!

I also had the opportunity to chat with lots of great people that day, and was really inspired by the fact that workers from so many different industries had come together to stand up for what they believe in.

If anyone wants a sticker, wants to tell me what they think of them, or sees one on a bumper-bar around Melbourne, please send me an email through my ActNow member page.
