Step 1: What's your vision?

Submitted by: ActNow Crew | 5 comments | Discuss now

I want to make this world a place of justice, unity, equality and peace. I am passionate about refugees and changing Australia's migration policy towards them so that people fleeing persecution are welcomed and helped instead of locked up on a remote island or in the desert.

Everyone has a “vision”an idea of what you want your world to be. Your world might be your local community, your country or the whole world. Your vision can be as local or global as you like. We’ve all got different visions relating to our different experiences of life. Working it out will help guide you, whatever action you may take.

1. Here are some questions to help you define your vision:

Here are four questions that will help you identify your passions and interests. Jot down some points and put it in a safe place. A few people are going to ask you for your vision along the way, and by answering it well, they’ll take you seriously. If they believe in you, they’ll give you their support.

Why are you reading this?

What motivates you to act? Why do you want to Act Now? Who inspires you? Who do you admire and why?

What pisses you off?

Have a think about what pisses you off in your world. Think as local or global as you like. For example, you could get angry about how much traffic there is in your area, or that people simply don’t have a public transport option. Looks like you’ve got a real passion for public transport. You think that people need to be encouraged to use it more and that there needs to be more of it.

There’s no point in being angry but doing nothing about it. Turn your vision into action: say your morning bus runs late every morning. You’re sick and tired of this. Make this your vision: the bus company will run a decent service. Your action will be to do something about late buses.

Can’t get enough of something?

What do you want to see more of? SammyP wanted to see more people giving blood.

What’s stopping you?

What things stop you from doing something about these issues? How will you overcome or deal with these?

the thought of being able to help someone through their life is my motivation. even if it is to get one person to smile. i hate selfish people and short term thinkers and i hope we change those types for the better. organisations like the Royal Flying Doctor and St Johns Ambulance inspire me. i would love to see more support for these organisations and more volenteers.

Governments should fear the people, NOT the other way round. More aid needs to reach third world countries yet governments pledge bugger all, thats assuming that their actually sending it. Then theres the issue of wiping third world debt. From what i can see and read it all comes back to GREED.Thats all these politicians and corporations are interested in when you look at the bigger picture. The fact that their willing to see millions die of starvation, diseases and the like all for reaping billions in revenue is true testament to how corrupt the people are.

If enough people in my community can band together and offer a local solution to reduce the amount of time cars spend on our roads and offer them a place to park instead of driving to work, the money saved could be spent buying carbon credits and also give a cheaper train fare to the city. It does require a committment from state governments. If you look at a lot of our raiway lines, there is a lot of space near stations that are car parks on a single level (ground). These small changes are a start, if it was to be adopted all over melbourne, then all over Australia, what a saving in green house gas emissions. One day when peak fuel has been reached and passed, a lot of our freeways will be ideal places to build rapid transit infrastucture that connect our suburbs together. Peak fuel is only 12-15 years away!!!!!!!

Too many people view situations having a short term outlook. We continually post pone change for a short term economical gain but in the long term this proves to be fatal. We are simply sacrificing our future to salvage the presence. We take for granted our resources and distribute them unevenly. Too many people do not care that thousands are suffering, starving and dieing I wish for this to change. We need to realise that we have taken this world for granted; we have abused, degraded and near killed this planet and those who live off it. Change is needed and it is needed now.

I yearn for us to recognise our own reflection in this 'Hall of Mirrors' world we stumble through. Then we might know our Life's dance more intimately.
