Agreed - Google Alerts is a great way of getting Google to do the work for you, and to mine down to the really relevant information. Thanks for sharing!

I find that Google's Alerts function is useful for keeping up to date. It emails you any time your key words get mentioned on the web or in the news. For example, I have one set up so that any time my town is mentioned in the news, I get sent an email. Since I am interested in Greenpeace and nuclear energy, I also get sent one any time the word Greenpeace is mentioned in the news, and any time "nuclear energy" is mentioned anywhere on the web.
Check it out at http://www.google.com.au/alerts

Flickr is a great website for finding photos. They have a special search function where you can look for images with a 'creative commons' liscence ... this means you can use the photos with out having to ask for permission.

www.about.com is an excellent site which returns searches that are relevant as well as related pages and topics that could be of use.

www.webcrawler.com is also good cos it combines all the top search engines (google, yahoo, etc)
